Pioneer Church

This church was originally non-denominational when it was constructed in 1880. Built on a lot donated by John Foreman, it was to be both a union meeting hall, and place of worship for the farmers and woodsmen in Bear Cave.
Before long, the church was taken over by the Anglican Church. A small school was constructed across the road. In later years, a Presbyterian congregation also began worshiping here. By 1901, 15 of the 25 people the small church could seat were Presbyterian.
It appears from the history I've read that Bear Cave was a fairly busy place. When you encounter this lone church, the only structure around, it's so difficult to imagine.
When I realized that the front door was open, I have to admit to a certain degree of surprise. When you've seen as many site vandalized as I have, you can't imagine a place of this historical significance being left open to anyone who wanders by.
On the other hand, it is a little remote.
