Kanichee Mine Revisited

It was a beautiful, sunny day. As I tend not to explore during the winter, I was starting to feel a little stir crazy. I needed to get out.

With breakfast under our belts, we set off with the general destination of Temagami in mind. Why not stop by and see an old friend?

The last time we visited Kanichee Mine, we were able to drive right up to it. Winter being the annoyance it is, however, we weren't able to do that this time. Part way in, we were forced to park and hike the rest of the way through the snow.

A twenty minute hike through the snow, using the packed snowmobile tracks as our path, and we arrived.

Surprisingly, little had changed since our last visit. Weather and time had clearly done some work on the old collapsed building you first encounter on the way in, but aside from that, no discernable difference.

After taking our time wandering around, reacquainting ourselves with our old friend, we began the trek back to the truck for the trip home. My cabin fever is somewhat cooled, but my wanderlust still aches for spring. Soon.

See the photos from our visit.
